Simplicity At Its Best

Rooms as art and furniture almost as sculptures, the design of a nearly deserted room shows minimalism giving maximum impact.
It remains true, less is more.

Bringing Fashion Home: Sheer

Sticking with this year’s spring fashion trends, the next best thing to lace is simply sheer / see-through clothing. It’s a much sought after delicate, feminine style that can be used in many ways including: tight sheer pieces, sheer layers, or draping. Seen as very chic, you can be flirty by wearing a cute bandeau underneath your sheer dress or slip into something more demure to keep your modesty. You can also play around with sheer insets that reveal some flesh but not too much, and try on different colors to find the one that suits you best. From taking fashion from the runways straight into your own homes, sheer interior décor isn’t exclusive to just drapery over a window, it can be something as simple as a transparent chair or table. Especially when you’re trying to maximize space in a small area or home, see-through furniture won’t seem to take up much visual space, and at the same time is stunning and stylish to the naked eye. Usually made of acrylic or glass, these pieces have great design and shape. Transparent furniture may be see-through but it will hardly go undetected!

HELPFUL NOTES:

- If you’re looking for a neat & clean look, this is the way to go.

- Don’t deck a whole room out with clear furniture. That may be a bit too much. Remember, a little goes a long way.

- Transparent acts like an accent color, allowing other bold colors in a room design to really stand out.

- Using light reflective and see-through materials is a great way to make a small room appear larger.

Brass reading lamps, a bar menu printed on textured paper, oversized bookshelves jammed with books and guest checks issued in miniature novels, all present in this literary bar. You can get an idea of the detail that went into designing it. With a cozy fireplace and plenty of comfy seating, you can easily while the night away until last call.

Not So Bankrupt

Leave it to the French to transform a trip to the bank into a mind-bending high design. The space features sensible use of color, pattern, and decorative motifs that you would least expect. Just make sure that all the design distraction doesn't make you write an extra zero on that check!

Bringing Fashion Home: Stripes

With spring coming up sooner than you know, it’s time to change that wardrobe with one of this year’s fashion trends: stripes. From mini dresses to hats to shorts, the dominance of adding stripes to an outfit creates a dynamic look. You can go nautical with navy blue and white, or playful with a mix of cool and warm colors. Either way, you can work this trend into any part of an outfit (just not all at once!) When it comes to fashion, stripes can slim a person’s body. The same concept goes for the walls in your home! Vertical stripes perceive a room to have taller ceilings and a wider room can be perceived with horizontal stripes. Whether vertical, horizontal, thick or thin, stripes create a bold yet sophisticated look that’s sure to attract the eyes. Designing with stripes can be risky and tricky though, but with the use of these tips you’ll create a fresh and stylish living space in no time!

  • Bringing together your different decor items with a certain color brings stripes and patterns together in a bedroom using pillows, beddings, and window treatments; so don't be afraid to mix and match patterns or solids with them throughout your entire space.
  • Stripes can add visual interest in one area and detract from another. Use this to your advantage.
  • If you're going for a more elegant look, use lighter colors. They also make a room look more spacious.
  • The higher the contrast between the stripe, the louder the statement. Use this sparingly.

Catch My Drift?

Pieces of driftwood can range from long, low horizontal branches to sturdy, upright chunks; and something as simple as draping loose blooms for a nature, earthy feel, or scattering shells, starfish, and candles for a warm beach look, driftwood can be detailed with such to make a great original centerpiece.
